- ⅓ cup boiled apple cider
- ½ cup shortening
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg (room temperature)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon allspice
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ cup sanding sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the shortening, granulated sugar, and egg using an electric mixer until creamy. Add boiled apple cider and blend well.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Chill the dough for one hour in the refrigerator.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Shape chilled dough into tablespoon-sized balls and roll in sanding sugar.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 9-11 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack.
