  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 16 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together unsalted butter and sugar in a stand mixer until fluffy. Add vanilla extract and salt, then gradually mix in all-purpose flour until a dough forms. Press evenly into the baking pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, combine sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
  4. For the crumble topping, mix flour and brown sugar; cut in melted or room temperature butter until crumbly.
  5. Increase oven temperature to 350°F (175°C). Sprinkle half the crumble over the baked crust, layer on the apples evenly, then top with remaining crumble.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely before slicing into squares.
