  • ¾ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup brewed barley tea
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, cream, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Pour the wet mixture over the bread and let it soak for about 10 minutes.
  5. If desired, stir in chopped pecans before transferring to the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
  7. For the caramel sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; stir in brown sugar until smooth.
  8. Gradually add heavy cream and barley tea; simmer until thickened for about 3–5 minutes.
