- 6 cups cubed brioche or French bread
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ cup chopped pecans (optional)
- ½ cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup brewed barley tea
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread.
- In another bowl, whisk together milk, cream, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Pour the wet mixture over the bread and let it soak for about 10 minutes.
- If desired, stir in chopped pecans before transferring to the baking dish.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
- For the caramel sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; stir in brown sugar until smooth.
- Gradually add heavy cream and barley tea; simmer until thickened for about 3–5 minutes.
- Drizzle warm caramel sauce over each serving before enjoying.
