  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 140 g unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk (room temperature)
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased and lined 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and spices.
  3. In another bowl, blend room temperature butter and oil before adding milk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just mixed.
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes for 10 minutes in pans before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. For frosting, beat cold cream cheese and room temperature butter until creamy; gradually add sifted powdered sugar.
  8. Assemble by layering with frosting in between and covering the top and sides.
