Ingredients

  • 2 tsp black tea leaves (or 2 tea bags)
  • 1½ cups water
  • 1 cup coconut milk (full-fat or light)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 34 whole cardamom pods
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
  • 23 whole cloves
  • 12 tbsp coconut sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 1½ cups of water to a boil. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, sliced ginger, and cloves. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the black tea leaves or tea bags and steep for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the coconut milk and let simmer on low heat for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Sweeten with coconut sugar to taste.
  5. Strain the mixture into cups using a fine mesh strainer.
  6. Garnish with ground cinnamon or star anise if desired. Serve hot or iced.
