Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1000 grams chuck or braising steak
- 1 cup onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 cm fresh ginger, chopped
- 0.5 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
- 0.5 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 0.5 cup water
- 3 cm cinnamon stick
- 1 dried bay leaf
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (plus more for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare all ingredients by chopping the onions, garlic, ginger, and beef into bite-sized pieces.
- In a pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat and sauté onions until golden brown. Add garlic and ginger; cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Transfer the sautéed mixture to the slow cooker. Add chuck steak, spices (turmeric, coriander, garam masala, cumin, red chili powder), salt, cinnamon stick, and bay leaf.
- Pour in beef broth and water; stir until combined.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for about 8 hours or high for about 4 hours until the beef is tender.
- Before serving, remove cinnamon stick and bay leaf; stir in chopped cilantro.
