- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 cup cold whole milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup chocolate batons or semi-sweet chocolate
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk (optional for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast in a mixing bowl. Add cold milk and stir until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Create a butter layer by flattening softened butter between parchment paper into a square; chill.
- Roll out chilled dough into a rectangle twice the size of the butter square, encase the butter, and roll out again into a rectangle; fold and chill for another 30 minutes.
- Roll dough into a large rectangle, cut triangles, place chocolate at the base, and roll up tightly.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), brush croissants with egg wash, and bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
