  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: About 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup cold whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup chocolate batons or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast in a mixing bowl. Add cold milk and stir until a rough dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Create a butter layer by flattening softened butter between parchment paper into a square; chill.
  4. Roll out chilled dough into a rectangle twice the size of the butter square, encase the butter, and roll out again into a rectangle; fold and chill for another 30 minutes.
  5. Roll dough into a large rectangle, cut triangles, place chocolate at the base, and roll up tightly.
  6. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C), brush croissants with egg wash, and bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
