- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- ½ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk until just combined.
- Spread the batter evenly in the pan and bake for 22-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown; whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste.
- Pour glaze over cooled bars and let set before slicing.
