- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, ¼ cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in Butter: Add cold butter pieces and blend until the mixture resembles crumbs.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until just combined.
- Shape Shortcakes: Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, forming six shortcakes.
- Bake Shortcakes: Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown; cool for about 10 minutes.
- Whip Cream: In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream with powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Assemble Shortcakes: Split each shortcake in half, layer with strawberries and whipped cream, then top with the other half.
