Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into 3×3-inch squares. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, combine milk and half the sugar over medium heat. In another bowl, whisk cornstarch, egg yolks, and remaining sugar until smooth. Gradually whisk the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, then return to the saucepan and cook on low heat until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
- Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form; add powdered sugar to taste.
- Once pastry is cooled, slice each square in half horizontally. Layer custard on the bottom half, add whipped cream, place the top half back on, and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
