  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 14 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple filling by combining chopped apples, brown sugar, butter, flour, cinnamon, water, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until softened. Let cool.
  2. In another bowl, mix rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Blend in cold butter until crumbly. Reserve one cup for topping.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Press the oat mixture into a greased baking pan as the base. Spread cooled apple filling on top and sprinkle reserved oat mixture.
  4. Bake for about 50 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
