  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 10 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 fresh unwaxed oranges
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
  • 2 star anise (optional)
  • 3 cloves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash the oranges and peel them carefully using a sharp knife, avoiding the white pith.
  2. Slice the peel into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide.
  3. Boil the sliced peels in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain. Repeat this process 2-3 times to reduce bitterness.
  4. In the same pot, combine sugar and water to create a syrup. Bring to a gentle boil until the sugar dissolves.
  5. Add boiled peels to the syrup and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes until translucent and syrup thickens.
  6. Transfer peels onto a cooling rack lined with parchment paper to dry completely.
