- 4 fresh unwaxed oranges
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- 2 star anise (optional)
- 3 cloves (optional)
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash the oranges and peel them carefully using a sharp knife, avoiding the white pith.
- Slice the peel into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide.
- Boil the sliced peels in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain. Repeat this process 2-3 times to reduce bitterness.
- In the same pot, combine sugar and water to create a syrup. Bring to a gentle boil until the sugar dissolves.
- Add boiled peels to the syrup and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes until translucent and syrup thickens.
- Transfer peels onto a cooling rack lined with parchment paper to dry completely.
