Ingredients
- 2 cups milk of choice or canned coconut milk
- 1/4 cup Dutch cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup sweetener (sugar, pure maple syrup, erythritol, or honey)
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- Optional: 3 oz chocolate chips or broken-up bar
- Optional: 3/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the milk of choice with salt, cocoa powder, and sweetener until warm.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the additional milk and cornstarch until dissolved.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the warm milk mixture and bring to a boil while stirring constantly for about 2 minutes.
- Lower heat and simmer for an additional minute; stir in vanilla extract and optional chocolate pieces until melted.
- Transfer to a refrigerator-safe container and chill until thickened.
