  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted or softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together unsalted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Gradually add all-purpose flour until just combined, then press into the bottom of the prepared dish.
  4. Toss sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spread over the shortbread base.
  5. For the crumb topping, mix remaining flour with brown sugar and melted butter; crumble over the apples.
