  • 1 pound challah bread (sliced)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 ½ cups whole milk
  • 1 ½ cups dark brown sugar
  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Spray a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, whole milk, and salt. Stir constantly until boiling, then pour into the prepared dish.
  3. Arrange slices of challah in the dish.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until well mixed.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes covered with foil and another 40 minutes uncovered after sprinkling with cinnamon-sugar.
