Ingredients
- 1 pound challah bread (sliced)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 ½ cups whole milk
- 1 ½ cups dark brown sugar
- 1 ½ cups unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/3 cup corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
Instructions
- Spray a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, whole milk, and salt. Stir constantly until boiling, then pour into the prepared dish.
- Arrange slices of challah in the dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until well mixed.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and refrigerate overnight.
- Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes covered with foil and another 40 minutes uncovered after sprinkling with cinnamon-sugar.
